While at Strassburg, Herder received an invitation to become Court-Preacher at Biickeburg, a town in North- ern Germany, the capital of the little principality of Schaumburg-Lippe. He accepted the call, and remained at Biickeburg, in that capacity, for five years, during which time his reputation as a theologian became so generally established, that he was offered the Professor- ship of Theology at Gottingen.
