7 - LIMIT...ATIONS OF THE STUDY : The study group (65 infants and their mothers) was compared to the total number of babies born within Montana in 1986 and their mothers. It was not possible to compare the study group to all babies born in 1986 who were covered by Medicaid (3031 infants).
Such a comparison would have involved identifying all 3031 infants and their mothers by name which would have taken an enormous amount of time and effort by a limited number of staff persons working on the study. It would have also involved a great deal of time spent by county staff.
