A person claimed to be a fugitive slave, is brought before a magistrate. "On what ground do you claim his services?" asks the magistrate. " On the ground, " answers the claim- ant, "that he is my property. " " But, " rejoins the magistrate, '"the Constitution, even as held by the Supreme Court of the United States, admits no right of property in man.
