What reading level is Suema Or the Little Africa Slave a Tale of Our Own Times Cfrom the French O book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

These few in- stances give but a slight idea of the horrors which take place every day on hundreds of other vessels.
In the petition made in 1826, to obtain the suppres- sion of the slave trade, we read that the captains of slave ships throw each year into the sea more than 1, 500 slaves, who have become so crippled from suffer- SUEMA. 17 ing as to be of little value in the market. A great mortality raging among the slaves on board a certain English vessel, the 'Kong, ' the captain took the res
...olu- tion to throw over those most afflicted by the epidemic. The principal pretext he devised for justifying in some way his atrocious intention was the lack of water, though neither the usual quantity given to each sailor, nor even that distributed to the slaves, had been as yet reduced. He then selected 132 of these unfortunates and had them cast into the sea. But Providence, as if wishing to render inexcusable the sacrifice of the remaining victims, sent during three days an abundant rain. Yet, still the captain remorselessly continued in his determination, and ordered the other sick slaves to be precipitated into the deep.
