Or, with still more credita- ble inconsistency, he tacitly assumes that such is the inevitable condition of things naturally; and considers that the creed, which in fact is the only grouiKl for believing it, is instead the only way of escaping it.
And, finally, this point of personal religious faith is the only thing which could have made it possible for the doctrine to be so long received and cherished.
