26. Making of Beams. Beams were made directly on the concrete floor of the testing laboratory, a strip of building paper being first spread on the floor. The forms used for the sides and ends were in general similar to those used in 1904 which are shown in Fig. 5, of Bulletin No. 1. They were of dressed pine with braces and bolts as before. They proved entirely satisfac- tory, except for some warping of the timber which was overcome by soaking the boards in water between applications. The con-
