The first hospital opened in town, later known as No. 1, was in charge of Major Dow, Surgeons Washburn and Gross remaining with the regiment. This building was care fully cleaned, the walls were whitewashed, and put into a thoroughly good condition, accommodat ing about forty patients, leaving a comfortable interval between the cots.
