In my last number, the question, whether the abstract case supposed to be one of shve-holdina- or not, was considered and decided in the negative ; but the present question still remains to b...e noticed and answered. Dr. Bacon may or may not be correct in defining slaveholding. He is responsible only for what he has written. His correct or incorrect views are not to be imputed to the Board. He is no ' federal head ' to them ; they are not to be condemned for his transgressions, nor is his righteousness to be set down to their account. My theology allows this in no case, and my common sense forbids it here. The Board are to be tried by their Report, which they unanimously adopted, and not by Dr.
