The «ntry is in Latin, and has been thos translated by Rudder: " This year, in a field called Hoc-berry, as the people were at plow, the plow-share tnming np some tiles^ discovered a Tessellated Pavement; and they found also gome brass coins of the Emperors Antoninus and Valentinian* The inha...bitants told me that they had oftentimes found brass and silver coins, but did not know what they^were; and that they had heard their ancestors say, that Rodmarton was for- merly removed from that place to where it now stands: how- ever, it appears that there was once a Roman station here.*'* The ancient manor-house at Rodmarton, now the property of Charles Westley Coxe, Esq. forming three sides of a quadran- gle, appears to have been built during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. A view of it has been engraved for the " Collection of Glocestershire Antiquities/' by Mr.
