The wand'rer was their welcome guest, The weary found in their grey walls rest ; The poor man came, and they scorn'd him not, For rank and wealth were alike forgot ; The peasant sat at the plenteous board With the pilgrim knight and the feudal lord ; The feast was spread, and the foaming bowl Grave freshen'd life to the thirsty soul ; Eound it pass'd, from the prince to the hind.
