Three sections from a bull pine made in November, 1901. This tree was prob- ably attacked by the beetles in July, 1900. It is a " black-top" tree. The sec- tions were made at points 4 feet, 26 feet, and 40 feet from the ground. All are blue. The section near the ground shows " red rot." This happens frequently where the bases of the trees are shaded by long grasses and bushes.
