To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
Our present organization for agricultural education owes its existence to the Morrill Act of 1862 which made provision for the establishment in each state and territory of a land-grant college to teach agriculture and the mechanic arts. In 1887 the Hatch Act provided for the organization of an experiment station as a department in each land-grant college. In these land- grant colleges four-year courses in dairying are given as well as short courses covering only the more practical phases. In ad...dition to the land-grant colleges, numerous private colleges, academies, and high schools over the coun- try are now teaching agriculture, including dairying. Agricultural education of the higher order is of little value if it can not be scattered among the farmers that actu- ally turn the sod ; and in order that the scientific principles developed in the laboratory may be actually put into prac- tice on every farm in the country there has been organized special machinery whereby agricultural science can be popu- larized.
