'Mr. Carnegie's attitude was not modified by the successful working of the arrangement ; and during the next two years he repeatedly placed himself on record, with increasing emphasis, as being opposed to any venture in Lake Superior ores. Writ- ing to the Board of Mana...gers from Buckhurst Park, Withyham, Sussex, on April i8th, 1894, he says again: "The Oliver bargain I do not regard as very valuable. You will find that this ore venture, like all our other ventures in ore, will result in more trouble and less profit than almost any branch of our business. If any of our brilliant and talented young partners have more time, or attention, than is required for their present duties, they will find sources of much greater profit right at home. I hope you will make a note of this prophecy.
