Rev. Caleb Jewett was the third congregational minister ; he was a native of Newburyport, Mass. , and graduated at Dart- mouth College in 1776 ; he was ordained at Gorham, Novem- ber 5, 1783 ; he was dismissed September 8th, 1800. Jere- miah Noyes was his successor ; he was from Newburyport — graduated at Dartmouth College 1799 — Ordained at Gorham, November 16th, and died January 15th, 1807. One condition of Mr. Noyes' settlement was, that he should lake a dismission whenever two-thirds of the... legal voters of the Parish, at a le- gal meeting, held for that purpose, should request it ; six months' notice to be given. Asa Rand was next ordained over the first Parish in Gorham, January 18th, 1809. He was a native of Rindge, N. H. , graduated at Dartmouth College 1806, and dismissed from his 29 pastoral charge June 12ih, 1822 ; he became afterwards editor of a religious newspaper in Portland, then at Boston, and sub- sequently at Lowell, Massachusetts.
