The purificator is a small towel or napkin of soft linen, from 12 to 14 inches square, used in wiping the chalice and paten after they have been rinsed by the priest at the altar, at the conclusion of the Eucharist. Like the cor- porases, the purificator is folded four times, and laid over chalice or paten in the sacristy, before the sacred vessels are carried to the altar. It is a reverent custom to wash out the purificator, as also the corporases when required, at the piscina.
