In preparing this substance p-nitrotoluene is treated with fuming sulphuric acid and a sulpho group is introduced, forming p-nitrotoluene sulpho acid. This product on boiling with caustic potash yields azoxystilbene disulpho acid, v^inc dust is then added to the alkaline solution setting free nas- cent hydrogen, which reduces it and decolorizes it, forming diamono stilbene disulpho acid.
