What reading level is The Church Triumphant book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
Now^ turn to the twentieth chapter of the Revelation of St. John, and read: ''I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God . . . And they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resur- 40 THE CHURCH TRIUMPHANT rection. " Does not this refer to the taking away of Christ's Church?
A 'thousand years, " then, are to follow the first resurrection,... the taking away of the Church, and preceding the general resurrec- tion. So it becomes evident that (1) Christ comes *^in the air" for the Church before the end of the world, since the general resurrection, when Christ comes to judge the unrighteous dead is at the end of the world (see the twentieth chapter), and (2) during the ''thousand years" the Church will reign with Christ. It is, therefore, not as the Church Militant, but as the Church Tri- umphant that it reigns for a season before the end of the world.
