Level tanks, with continuous precipitation, also occupy considerable space, but do not require any grade within the plant. 3. Upright tanks require little room or grade. The latter are therefore to be preferred within city limits, where the cost of the land is considerable. The first class are unsuited for cities with a level surface, since the pumping that would be nec- essary is expensive.
