Experiment alone is able to furnish data as to the practical value of a screw, and then it works " at a fixed point, " that is to say, moves upon an immovable dynamometer, which gauges its mechanical effort.

This question is : Must the screw be of a very small diameter, and revolve at high speed, or must it, on the contrary, be very large, and turn " slowly " ?
