This is no small undertaking for the pupil or for the teacher. The difficulties to be met are so nu- merous and so indeterminate that many times it is a question of judgment rather than a question of fact as to what should be done. Every diffi- culty that can be eliminated should be given such treatment without hesitation, because every ir- regularity should be rejected by the teacher as not contributing to success in the universal education of the masses. Then the pronunciation that is appropriate differs very greatly among even the well educated.
