What reading level is The Country Town a Study of Rural Evolution book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

Jarvis the foreign stock increasing naturally one-third each decade and augmented by the actual inflow from abroad would have numbered approximately forty-six millions in 1900. This deducted from the total white > Twelfth Census, U. S. , Vol. I, p. Xxv.
THE PRESSURE OF THE IMMIGRANT 159 population leaves twenty-one millions for the native stock. Under this extreme and altogether improbable supposition the result is reached that the native stock failed to keep its twenty-one and one-half million
...s in- tact by only an insignificant fraction. The truth prob- ably lies somewhere between Dr. Jarvis's assumption of an equal rate of increase for the foreign and native stocks, and this extreme proposition that the native stock is stationary while the foreign stock repeats the marvel of native fecundity in the early period from 1 790 to 1820. There is no possible way of determining the facts until the census enumerates all persons in whose blood is a strain of the immigrant. One man's guess is as good as another's, and, perhaps, the chief value of this discussion is in bringing to light the im- possibility of finding statistical support for the persist- ent assertion that the native stock is decadent.
