This is a case where the author of Supernatural Religion and Judge Waite show th...at they "have few equals in their power of re- sisting evidence opposed to their prejudices." — Pro- fessor Abbot. In view of the investigations of the most distinguished scholars, the Muratorian fragment is a very important witness for the canonical character of our Gospels in the last quarter of the second century.

Again, Judge Waite shows his bias and his ignorance in regard to manuscripts, when he ex- THE MANUSCEIPTS. 27 presses his surprise that no autographs of the Gospels have come down to us, and that none of the existing manuscripts of the Gospels date further back than the fourth century.
