On the 16th [June] FitzGibbon came down with his party and our advance pushed on to the 10 Mile Creek, which gave my men a great relief, as there was no field to act, only the mountain, where Fitz remained with his party. Cornet McKenney was attached to him with a few dragoons. The service had been so severe prior to this that our horses were completely knocked up. Capt. Hall arrived with a party of Can[adian] dragoons, which was likewise a ...very great relief. Col. Bisshopp, commanding the advance, whose headquarters were at the 20 Mile Creek, Major or Lt. -Col. Dehearn [DeHaren] at the 10 with 200 of the 104th and 300 Indians, principally Cogna- wagas, who had arrived from Lower Canada, his left at the lake, a strong picket on the Lake Road, his right at Turney s Cross Roads, near the German meeting house. FitzGibbons headquarters [were] at DeCoo s, altho he was always on the move, never slept twice in the same place. [The] dragoons [were] patrolling from the Gferman] meeting house to the lake.
