It is not only allowable, but Duty.
And now, if it is the Concern of a People, in the midft of their military Engagements, that GOD may be with them ; if they are fenfible that with- out him, they can do nothing ; that the Race is not to the Swift, nor the Battle to the Strong ; if they are perfwaded that Victory is of the Lord, and they are trufting to his Strength in the Ufe of Means ; What is the Confequence to be drawn from hence ?
Is it not, that fuch a Temper is pleafing to GOD, and that ...they may rely on him for Succefs ? This is certain, if any may hope for a Bleffing, they may.
But this is not all the Encouragement fuch a Peo- ple may take. There is this, further to flrengthen their Faith, that they are the People of GOD. They are ( 21 ) are the ProfefTors of his Name and Religion, they have- taken upon them the Badge of his Servants, and therefore he will put Honour upon them. Tho' they may by neglecting to do their jirjl Works, and forgetting their firjl Love, provoke him to correct them with the Sword 5 yet if they humble themj elves Under his Hand, if they turn to him that is f mi ting them, andfeek the Lord of Ho/Is ; if they acknow- ledge their Dependance upon him, and implore his Prefence, from a tender Concern for his Honor, they may with Confidence go forth to War, and truft in his Covenant Care and Faithfulnefs for a Bleffin£.
