Since the sorites is an incomplete prosyllogism and episyllo- gism, there are intermediate major and minor premises. The prime major, therefore, will denote the last premise in the pro- gressive, and the first premise in the regressive, series. The final minor will denote the first prem...ise in the progressive, and the last in the regressive, series. If any other premise than the prime major be negative, there will be a fallacy of illicit major, and if any other than the final minor be particular, there will be an illicit middle.
CHAPTEE XV. HYPOTHETICAL REASONING THE forms of reasoning may be divided in the same manner as propositions. In fact they are determined by the nature of the propositions which constitute them. We have already ob- served that propositions may be divided into Categorical, Hypothetical, and Disjunctive.
