It is by collecting the secretion discharged upon this cotton tampon from the cervix and uterus over a period of twenty-four hours, and examining it under a microscope, that we remark how often a smear of pure pus cells is obtained; and if, after a period of months or years the cervical uterine discharge is negative, we still may have to deal with a latent inflammatory condition in the tubes.
