In 1609, upon the death of Dr Overton, bishop of Lichfield and Coventry, Dr Abbot was appointed bishop of these united sees : a month afterwards he was translated to London ; and on the 2d Novem- ber, 1610, he was raised to the archiepiscopal see of Canterbury.
