On the 27th of December, the town council for 1849 was elected, the number of votes cast being three hundred and forty-seven. The members elected were Stephen C. Harris, W. D. M. Howard, George C. Hubbard, Robert A. Parker, Thomas J. Roach, John Sirrine, and John Town- send. The old town council of 1848 was opposed to the continuance of the new one, because a certain number of unqualified persons had voted at the election, and therefore ordered a new election. On the 15th of January, 1849, anot...her town council was consequently elected, composed of Stephen C. Harris, Lazarus Everhart, Stephen A. Wright, Daniel Storks, Isaac Montgomery, John Sirrine, and C. E. Wetmore, two of the members being common to this and the council elected in December.
