W. Engel (De tempore qiio divulgatus sit Isoc. Panegyr. , Berlin, 1861) relying on the statement of Diodorus (XV. 8) that the war ended in 385, tries to reconcile Diodorus with Isoc. By supposing that, with the exception of §§ 125 — 132, which allude to 380 b. C, the Panegyricus was published in 385, just before Evag. Capitulated. The... " six years " of Isoc. Would then be 391^ — 385, during which the war was actively prosecuted, 394 — 391 having been years chiefly of preparation.
