Chcetopsis cenea Wied. and its Train. — This little bud- destroying ortalid fly deserves special mention, because in cer- tain situations it does more to prevent fruiting than all other insect enemies combined. Furthermore, its attack comes earli- est ; its larva enters the pedicel at the base of the flower bud and bores downward into the common flowering stem (pe- duncle), killing not one bud, but the cluster of two or three arising at that point.
