In a few weeks it expired. In the midst of life it was in death.
But the thought of another tri-monthly return to make out on the 30th tortured my waking mo- ments and filled my sleep with horrid dreams nightly. On the 30th, however, the regiment marched to El Paso. In the excitement of the following days even brigade and division head- quarters forgot the tri-monthly returns and asked for no more.
