What reading level is The Fundamental Principles of Chemistry : Practically Taught, By a New Method book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

Only HCl of these four acids is met with in nature, and it is met with in small quantities only, in certain volcanic gases. HCl is obtained by the action of H2SO4 on NaCl (Ex. 643) and HF by the action of H2SO4 on CaF^. But H2SO4 cannot be usefully employed for the preparation of HBr and HI from their corresponding salts, for on their formation a portion is decomposed by some of the H2SO4 : — H2SO4 + 2HBr=Br2 + 2H2O + SO2.
They can be obtained by heating one of their alkaline salts with H3PO4,
...and they can also be prepared by acting on their phosphides with water. They are very easily prepared in solution by suspending Br or I, as the case may be, and passing H2S through the water, as both Br and I decompose HjS by removing the H and combining with it. HCl in solution is manufactured on a very extensive scale, as the for- mation of Na2S04 from NaCl is the first step in obtaining sodium carbonate and caustic soda from that salt : HCl is employed industrially, but it is more extensively used for the production of CI (Ex.
