John Jacobs, and was allowed {£2 8 19s. 8di for ser\^ce 6 months and 8 days and 120 miles travel ; and v/as on the muster rolls as "of Royalston." The writer cannot locate the place of service of that Reg. for that Campaign, but from the memorandum on the muster roll ; "Midleton Aug. 27, 1778" he infers that it might have gu...arded the lower Connecticut river from the British, then occupying ^.Y.
city. The Reg. however, might have been at the seige of I^ewport R. I. under Gen. Sullivan.
In Feb. 1793 Peter Gale removed his family "to Barre Yt., a month before the organization of the town, and be- came the llrth family in the town ; and there purchased a tract of wild land including a part of "Cobble Hill," that lias since furnished granite for the building of the State House at Montpelier Yt,. and commenced pioneer Hfe in earnest.
