In Plate 4 from the monument of Henry III. And in Plate 10 from that of Richard II. Portions of the inscriptions round the effigies are given to show the mode of intro ducing these stops or devices, the longer ones being employed at the termination of sentences, or when the inscription does not reach the end of the panel within which it is placed.
