Paul, in his turn, declares his readiness to be bound and die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus. In Melita the trivial cir- cumstance that the bite of a viper, promptly shaken of! by him into the fire, did not cause Paul to swell up {i. E. , his hand to be inflamed), or die, caused the bar- barians to acclaim him as a god ; and in the sequel the sick in the island flock to him, and are healed.
