He was a delegate from Digitized by Google 2^ HISTORY OF ARKAKSAS, Sebastian county to the constitutional convention in 1.^74. He represented his county in the legislatures of 1877, 1879, and 1885. He was the author of the Fishback amendment to the constitution, and can- vassed the state for its adoption. He was elected governor of the state in 1892, and served one term, after which he vol- untarily withdrew.
