The Twelfth Regiment was recruited late in the Sum- mer of 1861, and organised at Camp Union, Dubuque, Iowa, and mustered into the service of the United States November 26, 1861, by Capt Washington, Thirteenth United States Infiuitry.

Wallace commanding the Division, and were In position near a field bevond Gen. Hurlbut*s headquartera. Here it remained in line of battle flrom 6 o*clock A.
