While, therefore, we are fully aware of the danger of delay, and avoid it by all means in our power ; yet, since we cannot ascertain the period when bleeding would be unavailable, we should not too soon be discouraged from the trial of it ; but may venture to re- commend its use, till there is reason to believe that effusion, sup- puration, or gangrene, has taken place.
