Nature is far stronger than any ' uncongenial ' law, and a ' right life ' is known by its gladness. Duty grows into delight, because that which we must do, once accomplished, brings in its train unforeseen delights, of which the sense of duty done is the least and the prelude only. The practical rule for lovers then is to make the measure of their achieved delight the test of their morality, for though God's law may be disobeyed, no satisfaction results from disobedience.
