AN ACT TO AMEND THE LAW CONCERNING GAMES AND WAGERS (8 & 9 VICT. C. 109).
THE title to this chapter, is the title of the most im- porta...nt Act, which came into operation on the 8th August, 1845, whereunder the attitude of the law towards wagers in general, and games of skill and play for excessive amounts, was altered into what it remains substantially at the present day, subject, how- ever, to the Graining Act, 1892.
The preamble of the Act recites, that the laws thereto- fore made in restraint of unlawful games had been found of no avail to prevent the mischiefs which happen there- from, and also apply to sundry games of skill from Partial which the like mischiefs could not arise.
