I want to be able to mould and remould the clay to 148 THE LETTERS OF VICTOR HUGO.
my own liking, to melt and remelt the wax, and, to do this, the clay and the wax must both belong to me.
Besides, there will be somebody to administer and man- age on my behalf. I shall only write the plays, and, once the machine is started, shall perhaps go ofE and write them on the Lake of Como, or on the banks of the Rhine, or in your house.
