So deep was the interest felt by the Prince in this subject, that he gave close personal consideration to the Savings Banks Bill introduced by Government in the following session, and entered into an active correspondence with Sir Charles Wood, which resulted in important modifications upon the measure in accordance with suggestions by the Prince, all having for their object to give the largest measure of encouragement to savings by the humbler classes.
