The wall has a high parapet with embrasures, and the top of it, inside the parapet, is a fairly good paved road either for walking or riding. Near each city gate is a long and easy flight of steps, which can be ascended by horses as well as by men. It lies in an extended amphitheater, in some places not far from twenty miles in breadth, with hills on one side and the ocean on the other.
