His personal conversations on art and artists ; his sensitive and unfeigned enjoyment of all things venerable and beauti- ful ; his kind readiness to answer our million questions ; his unstinted provision for our comfort at any cost ; his uniform good nature and practical tact, by which we really came to be like a family, can never be forgotten.
