They thus hold the top rolls tightly down. On No. 6 stand a cast steel disc is used instead of a rosette, and a long lever is attached to it, which in turn is held in place by means of bolts through slots in the outer edge of the disc. Reasons for Studying Defects: A great many of the precautions necessary to observe in rolling the semi-finished products have been mentioned at various times in preceding pages. However, as failure to observe the proper precautions in rolling gives rise to defects in the material which may show up in the finished article and as the reader may be par- ticularly interested in this phase of the business, it is thought that a list of rolling defects and their causes may be found useful and interesting.
