It was a Sir John Scudamore who married a daughter of the rebel Welsh chieftain, Owen Glendower, who, robbed and insulted by that filibuster of the Marches, Lord Grey of Ruthin, revolted against Henry IV., and carried on a harass- ing border warfare for years until, the endurance of his people becoming exhausted, he subsided into obscurity. The end of his career is uncertain, but he is thought to have died at Monnington, near Hereford, in 1415.
