If these can ...be maintained, the growth of willows, sedge, hemlock, reeds, water ranunculus, and many other fine and luxuriant plants affords insectfood for the fish and shelter for the birds, besides giving to the riverits natural floral border. If this is replaced by stone banks the birdsand the fish will move elsewhere.

[2] In the beautiful grounds of Chiswick House, where the presentoccupier, Dr. T. Tuke, carefully preserves all wild birds.
