He achieved success, and in 1816 was elected to Congress as the successor of Rev. Samuel Taggart of Colrain, who had served for 14 years, and declined a re-election. Mr. Allen served his district in Congress for 12 years. In 1822 he removed to Green- field and finally to Northfield, where upon a beautiful farm, he ended his days. The home place is yet held by a descendant.
