The curious custom of the convadc seems to be Iberian rather than Aryan. It is practised in Corsica, 1 Lubbock, Prehistoric Times, p. 176. 2 Gross, Les Frotohehltes, ...p. 107. THE NEOLITHIC CULTURE. 185 the South of France, the North of Spain, and in Western Africa, regions where we find traces of the Iberian race. 1 Marriage by purchase, which prevailed among the Germans, the Thracians, the Latins, and the Vedic Indians, is a stage in advance beyond marriage by capture, of which we find traces among the ruder Dorians, and perhaps in Italy. Only three words denoting family relationships are found in every branch of Aryan speech. These are the names for mother (inatar), brother (bhratar\ and father-in-law (socer).
