A thorough examina...tion and refutation of these views will be found in special works devoted to the sub- ject, such as Robert Flint's Anti-Theistic Theories and his Agnosticism, but in this study there is room for only a brief examination of two of them, the two that are most prevalent and that include in one form or an- other most of the others. These are deterministic mon- ism and pantheism.

This ultimate substance may be viewed as material in nature and then we have materialism, or as mental in nature and then we may have idealistic pantheism, or as unknowable and then we have agnos- ticism.
